Why Do I Need This Self-Assessment?
“Search me, O God, and know my heart…” This is a prayer of obedient self-evaluation. God commands His people to consider their ways. Similarly, God, commands: “test yourselves”, “let each one examine his own work” and that we think of ourselves with “sound judgment”. It is inescapable that God wants us to exercise serious introspection. Yet this introspection, or self-examination, is not an end in itself but serves to show us areas of needed growth. In other words, self-examination is not just designed to reveal where we are but also to reveal where we need to move forward. With that in mind, we’ve designed this self-assessment tool. While it is just a tool, our prayer and anticipation is that it will lead you to intentional and specific examination about where you need and want to grow in loving God and loving people.
How Do I Use This Tool?
- PRAY – Begin by prayerfully asking the Lord to use this in your life and reveal where He wants you to grow (see Psalms 26:2; 139:23,24).
- E xamine - Read through the statements under the 10 headings and circle which rating best reflects you at this time.
- Prioritize- After assigning a rating to each statement, look at each heading and decide which are areas of needed growth and which are strengths for you.
- Plan- Use the back page to record 2-3 strengths and to pick 2 areas of needed growth. Now is the time to begin to make a plan (and commitments) for how you will use your strengths and how you will pursue growth in these areas. Share your prayerful desires for growth with a trusted friend for support and accountability. Sign and date your plan.
- Pray - Pause for prayer again, asking for God’s empowerment and committing your heart, time and energies to grow in loving God and loving people.
